British Sports Horse Breeding

Sports horse breeding in the UK has improved greatly over the last 5-10 years as British horse breeder have learned the value of using the finest brood mares and stallions to produce quality horses for the future

The foundation of numerous studs have helped in the UK including Brendon Stud, High Offley Stud & Beech House Stud who have all been founded from successful competition yards

High Offley Stud is a British show jumping and dressage stud producing high quality sport horses to excel in any sphere of equestrianism, High Offley Stud was a successful show jumping yard and home of Holstein stallion Arturo 8 and leading show jumper of the year Barry Bug. High Offley Stud use proven brood mares that have a proven competition record to produce young horses of the highest quality. These brood mares include Niagra B (Breeder Cup Winner), Catchas Catch Can (Competed on Nations Cups), La Bohem Grade A show jumper & half sister to It's Otto and Jadorijk Grand prix show jumper to mention a few.

Some successful sport horses have been bred at High Offley Stud these include the advanced eventer Sunny Boy II & graded stallion Bohemian Business. High Offley Stud breeds 10-15 foals a year and always have a selection of quality young horses For sale.

Beech House Stud is the home of international show jumping rider Geoff Glazzard and his successful dutch warmblood stallion It's The Business which he won so many good classes, Beech House stud now has Derek Morton riding in the ring but there has been a marked increase in priority in the horse breeding side of there business.

Brendon stud is home of many successful stallions including the foxhunter winner unbelievable Darco they continually bring out exciting home bred horses that look to excel as show jumping stars for the future.

With these studs and many more british horse breeding is on the up hopefully soon we will be able to catch up with our European counter parts who have had such a head start with breeding sports horses and who have many large studs that have been established for decades, Studs such as VDL Stud, Zangersheide Stud, Team Nijhof stud who have been breeding sport horses for years and who's stable boast a who's who of stallions such as Zandor Z, Heartbreaker, Voltaire, Caridor Z, Calvados, Ramiro Z, Carthago Z, Nimmerdor, Indoctro all available for breeding many of these studs have 100's of mares and breed 100's of foals a year, British stud have a bit of a way to go still but at least we are on the right track.
